Summary
This study will assess the impact of insecure work on regional Victorians’ health and wellbeing. It will examine regional Victorian’s experience of working in insecure employment and the impacts that working in insecure employment has had on their health, wellbeing, and wider social participation. This is an important study because there has been significant growth in rates of flexible and temporary employment in Australia over the past 15 years—a change that may have ramifications for workers’ health.
While there has been research done on these issues that considers impacts on the urban workforce, this project will be the first to explicitly consider the impact of insecure work on the rural workforce. This is particularly important given the crisis in rural health and the important changes in the labour market brought about by the global financial crisis.
